This was a fair thriller with a PI spin that didn't quite stack up. I had a hard time relating to the main character and forget the supporting cast. Oops, I already did. There was so much disconnect between the reader and the characters that it just never came together. I couldn't shake the feeling that this one was written just to sell with little thought going into the actual story. Sorry.Product details

good book series
Simeon could not figure anything out. He was lucky, almost blind luck, right to the end. Not a good read for me. I also read for entertainment and not to improve my vocabulary.
Tim Hallinan writes a tight fast paced well written action thriller with interesting characters that are both human and with their own personal morality that sets a unique direction to each plot. Every book was worth the price and the time.
The plot of this novel was Simeon trying to find a person who was burning up bums. He got one that was connected to wealth and he got his paycheck. Of the four novels of Mr Hallinan, this one was allright, where the others I thought were great!
The Incinerator is a high-octane thriller that keeps up the best of the Simeon Grist mystique. He has to be the most battered, bloodied, knocked down and shot at detective of all time who keeps putting on a bandage and goes another round like the Energizer Bunny. Am ordering #5 as I write this review.
This novel was intelligently written as are all the Simeon Grist stories. I always learn something from them (sometimes with a dictionary). This time it touched on fire symbolism in religions with a little bit of mythology thrown in. That just added to the story, not detracted from it. The characters were "real" people. I thought "Incinerator" was not as good as "Skin Deep" but it was still a great mystery and I liked it.
I liked this book a lot, even in spite of the author's seeming misgivings about it in the intro. This one was a page-turner as are all of his books. Sassy characters in fun locations, such as a medieval fair. Very enjoyable read.
