Ploryunv, an alien, is stranded on Earth, and eighteen-year-old John Bradford helps Ploryunv fix his spaceship. In the process, Ploryunv uses an alien device on John—the result is that John now uses all of his brain. John, besides becoming smarter, now can read minds, take control of another person's body, and plant suggestions in someone's mind that she thinks are her own idea.
With his new mental abilities, it would be easy for John to score sex with hot babes. BUT—
The same day that John gets his new mental powers, John’s parents are murdered by mobsters. John decides to use his new powers to hunt down the scumbags and to take deadly revenge on them.
Sex with hot babes will have to wait for later.

A very good "superhero" origin story. John gets his powers in a sequence that would leave many superheroes nodding in familiarity, though not quite as many would approve of how he goes about taking vengeance on the criminals who killed his parents. The story itself captures my imagination quite nicely, detailing some of the very interesting potentials and limitations of his new powers. And best of all, the entire book (see? "Book 1", right there on the cover!) does an excellent job of setting up the sequel. "You thought you handled that crisis pretty well, didn't you? And you figured that it would be easy street from here on out, right? Well, John, congratulations on surviving the bunny slopes. Now, you've got at least one major opponent trying to turn YOU into HIS puppet... and possibly even more threats waiting in the wings! Definitely looking forward to the next book!Product details

The MindPower Avenger eBook Doctor MC Reviews
This book should be subtitled "Revenge in the Hands of the Average Teenager," but of course, it would be the average teen who has received the ability to read and control minds. It's a short, fun read with lots of action.
WARNING SPOILERS. John is clearly having a great time testing his new abilities, and clever as he is, quickly picks up on how to get the mobsters who killed his parents to take revenge upon themselves. John is very single-minded, knows whom he wants and what he needs to do to get them. The only downside for me--he's a little too focused. But the good Doc takes care of that by throwing in a charming young lady, who is very distracting and happens to be the daughter of the main mobster. What else can he do, but use her for bait... It's a fun ride, I would have loved to see more of the alien, but I'm happy John took some very bad people off the street!
Fun
Interesting story with various paranormal twists from alien contact. Some of the sequences are hard to believe, but easy to accept in favor of the main hero in this tale. Overall an okay story with surreal moments.
As Doc said himself earlier, think about the Punisher with mind control powers. In the past Doc has been accused of having gratuitous sex in his stories, but here it used only once and seams to fit into the story line. The story itself is somewhat predictable, but the epilog leaves you realizing there is much more to come
As usual, Doc peppers his stories with lots of hidden 'Easter Eggs' and inside jokes. This time he's hinting towards revenge themed stories (a certain rich kid goes batty when he sees his parents killed in chilly (I mean cold) blood; a person who can cloud men's (and women's) minds; and a certain TV show about files that begin with a letter near the end of the alphabet).
